Bouldering Competition - Rise Up 2009 - Panasonic DMC-GF1
This is video shot at the 2009 Rise Up Bouldering Competition. The comp was in Lynchburg Va. The club had a great bouldering section and an amazing 40+ foot lead and top rope wall. My 6 year old son and his climbing team did really well. The routes were appropriate for the little kids and more challenging for the adults. However, the open winner flashed all 5 of the hardest routes. He is an amazing climber though. If you are in Lynchburg I highly recommend checking

Rock climbing techniques?

Hi. I've been rock climbing indoors since November and tomorrow I'm going to be assessed to see whether my local centre wants to invite me to their academy. I struggle quite a bit on overhangs and can barely climb 6a on them :( but if I'm on a slab or a route with just a small overhang I can confidently climg 6bs on sight.
The thing is, tomorrow I can't pick which routes I do so if the instructor picks an overhang I'm pretty much stuffed.

Kenneth, my 5 year old son attempts to top rope at Coyote Rock Gym. Its located at St. Laurent and Innes intersection, I think the address in on St. Laurent. You can't miss it, its near Midway and LaserQuest. It's an indoor rock climbing gym, bolted ropes, and using Grigri Belay Device. This is the only rock gym in Ottawa that allows children to enjoy top roping. (the only one i know) So far, he is enjoying and training to be the next

If you plan on climbing anything that requires a rope, you'll need a harness and a belay device with a carabiner. Chalk and a chalk bag might be something else you'd want to get if you find you're really enjoying yourself.

Answer by the yes manthere are some(lots) in the south platte areas to the east of the ark drainage and tons down in the black canyon of the gunnison. though not multi pitch if you haven't been to penetente canyon south of salida(near del norte) it is very cool, really nice rock there and some cool routes. near colorado

I would like to become qualified to become a rock climbing instructor, but I know I need to complete climbing courses first. Currently, I only have NICAS level two, but would like to complete more. Can anyone provide me with information and links to places I can complete these courses?

How do you make rock climbing a competition?
Question by Lauren M: How do you make rock climbing a competition?
I was recently elected onto the executive board for my Jewish Youth Group. Part of being on board includes coming up with fun events to do as a group. So, I chose to promote a Rock Climbing night (at an indoor climbing facility, not outdoors). However, to get this idea to fly, I need to create a competition out of it. Does anyone have any ideas?

Ive become extremely interested in mountain climbing, but i have no idea where to start. I live in a mountainous region, so finding a place to do it isnt a problem. Should I go to a rock climbing supply store and have them point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance

I want to learn to rock climb but have no idea how to get started. Usually, rock climbers Ive seen in Zion NP are there with special permits but the NP doesnt have any info on how to get started.
PLEASE HELP.
Also what is the investment moneywise: classes, gear etc.

I want to take my daughters, ages 9, 11, 16 rock climbing. Dont want artificial walls. All the state parks require you to have your own equipment - I want an instructor or something already set up where they can just go at it.

Good rope knots for rock climbing.?

Just out of curiosity. What are some knots you guys find helpful know when it comes to rock climbing?
I know the Fisherman's knot, Figure 8 knot, Water Hitch knot, Prussic (Spell check) Knot., and the Bowline Knot.
I know there are tons of knots and hitches out there to learn but are there any out there specifically useful when Rock climbing? Other then the ones I have listed of course.

I'll be studying soon at the Beijing International Art School but want to be able to continue climbing. Indoor walls are also useful for winter but I prefer bouldering above ropes and would welcome outdoor (on real rock) suggestions.
